Contraction taking toll on airline industry
-
The impacts of the contraction are being felt in the airline industry, with employee cutbacks continuing to be a trend.
This week, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported that in June, passenger airlines employed 6.3 %fewer worker than they did in June 2008. This was said to be the 12th consecutive year over year fall.
The trend was said to apply to most major airlines, including discount ones and regional ones. The leading employer in the industry was reportedly American Airlines among network carriers, while Southwest was the leading employer for low-cost airlines and American Eagle led the way in employees among regional carriers.
